Chanderi sari is the traditional sari woven in Chanderi in Madhya Pradesh.
According to local records chanderi was founded by by Lord Krishna’s cousin Shisupala.  The famous weaving culture was started between the 2nd century and 7th century. In the 11th century the trade locations Malwa, Medwa, central India and south Gujarat gave Chanderi its importance.

The chanderi sarees are mainly produced from three different kinds of fabric i.e. pure silk, chanderi cotton and silk cotton. Different designs like traditional coin, flora art, peacocks and geometrics are woven into different patterns of chanderi sarees. Chanderi saress have lot of fan following inside and outslide India as its among the finest sarees made in India and are known for their gold and silver brocade or Zari, fine silk and opulent embroidery.
